The United Kingdom will work to develop the IT sector in Bangladesh

The United Kingdom will work with Bangladesh to develop the IT sector. Robert Chatterton Dickson, the British High Commissioner to Bangladesh, expressed this interest at a meeting held at the BASIS office on Wednesday with the executive committee of the Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS).

BASIS reported the interest to the media on Thursday.

During the meeting, British High Commissioner Robert C. Dickson said, "We are keen to work with Bangladesh to create skilled manpower for the development of the IT sector and to organize business-to-business (B2B) matchmaking sessions." He also promised to provide necessary assistance in organizing road shows in both the countries to connect the IT sector of Bangladesh and the United Kingdom. He is also keen to work on attracting Bangladeshis living in the UK to contribute to Bangladesh's IT sector.

BASIS President Russell T. Ahmed said, “On January 1 this year, our Hon'ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina declared IT as the 'Product of the Year'. In line with that announcement, BASIS has already embarked on five targets in the IT sector - human resource development, startup ecosystem, local market development, export growth to $ 5 billion and industry promotion.

The BASIS President further said that this year the annual flagship event of our sector 'BASIS SoftExpo 2022' will be held with direct participation. There, UK entrepreneurs will be able to showcase their products and services and participate in other activities, including seminars, Bitcoin matchmaking sessions, and tech talk.

The meeting was attended by British High Commission Head of Trade and Investment (Acting) Khalid Ghaffar, Trade and Investment Officer Abir Barua, BASIS Vice President (Administration) Abu Dawood Khan, Vice President (Finance) Fahim Ahmed, Director Habibullah Neyamul Karim, AKM Ahmed Islam Babu, Syed Mohammad Kamal, Tanvir Hossain Khan, Rashad Kabir and others.
